I was planning on getting a nice CRT for the rig I'm currently constructing, but after spending some quality time with my buddy's LCD tonight, I went to Dell and ordered an UltraSharp 1505FP 15 inch.

QUITE a big noticalbe difference. After an hour or two with my CRT, my eyes ache. Using his LCD, everything was noticable more sharp, and I didn't end up with a headache. That was about all I needed to know. Mine should be here in a week or so.

There any proven data on this? Has anyone looked at LCDs vs CRTs and reports of eyestrain? For me, an LCD is MUCH more comfortable.

I have both a Sony G500 21" Trinitron and a Dell 2001FP LCD side-by-side, and here are my findings...

The LCD is definitely sharper in its native resolution of 1600x1200, but if I scale to some other non-native resolution the LCD loses its sharpness to the Trinitron. Consequently, the LCD is beautiful at 1600x1200 while my Sony beats the heck out of the Dell at 1024x960 (the CRT's ideal resolution for its size) or any other non-native resolution.

The LCD is brighter than the Trinitron, but that's because the Sony is 5 years old and its phosphors aren't what it used to be.

The fact that my G500 Trinitron has 5BNC inputs also makes its image quality better than most other CRTs, especially against those with only D-sub 15-pin inputs.

I don't find any eyestrain problems staring at either my G500 (100Hz refresh rate and 5BNC inputs) or the 2001FP (on DVI).

Eventually I'll have to get rid of the G500 though, that's for sure... That's the relentless forward march of technology for ya..

Yup, CRT give your eyes get cancer and pop out after prolong use, especially for FPS playing children.

I recently bought a Samsung 710T LCD and I agree with all of the above!

What is a good number to choose for sharpness? I am at 60.
