LCD woes

Howdy all,

I've got and older advan 13" that's giving me some problems. It was hooked up to a mobo with onboard rage IIc graphics but was disconnected so I could replace the hdd in the computer. I did the switch and ran the machine on a 19" crt for a few days.

However, when I moved the computer back to the LCD, I keep getting an error message saying that the graphics card is trying to access timings beyond the specifications of the monitor.

Does anybody know how the heck I remedy this? The computer works fine on two 19"ers and one 17" crt's that I have around, but not with the LCD. I unfortunetly am not able to test the LCD with another machine as it is not in my house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Change the settings in Windows (or whatever OS you are using) to 640x480 with 256 colours and standard Refresh rate. See if it works then.

Yep, it's probably the refresh rate is set incorrectly. LCDs will only work at certain refresh rates, 60-75mhz most of the time.

ah, okay...so you're saying boot to windows using a crt monitor, change the settings, then move it over to the lcd?

weird....I always thought while posting, the bios just defaulted to a certain refresh rate.

p.s. just to make it clear, I get this error before the computer posts. Nothing gets displayed on the screen, no memory check, nothing. Just the message.

yeah, sounds to me like the refresh rate is not correct. Hook it up to a CRT and change it if you can. I dunno, happened to me, and that worked.
