I need some responses on this. I can get a nice analog lcd monitor for pretty cheap.... just wanted to know if analog is at all close to dvi quality.

If you get/have a card with quality 2d output, then the difference is very small. Also you need a DVI output on your video card to use DVI on a TFT.

So let's assume I have a GF4 with DVI, VGA, and all the tv output ...

How much difference would using the DVI be from using the VGA? Any specifics?

From what I have heard the differences a very small to nil assuming that your card has a nice clean VGA signal. The quality of the components on the board will determine how much interfenence there is. If you have DVI, use it, if not, VGA will do just fine.

Personally I have a E171 17" Dell LCD running analog with a PNY Geforce 4 4200ti, and the picture is excellent. No problems with ghosting playing Max Payne, and text is solid for everyday use. HOWEVER, DVD playback is definitely not one of its strong points because it is noticeably worse than my Trinitron flat CRT. Granted if at all possible, DVI would be ideal, but as long as you get a decent LCD with a good video card, there aren't many people who are going to be able to distinguish a noticeable difference between a DVI connection and a analog.

dvi has improvement over analog, but not day and night difference.
If you're not going to get a new vga card with dvi, without dvi LCD is not a big issue.

Last week I bought a 20" LCD. My video card is ATi 8500LE. Because the LCD doesn't come with a DVI cable. I had to use D-sub for first 2 days. The image quality is pretty good. However, the native resolution of the my 20" LCD is 1600x1200. The texts show blurry. When the DVI arrived, the blurries were gone! Extremely clear image acorss all screen area.

I was wondering the same thing as you jhbball. Would it be worth paying a bit more for dvi support on a 15" monitor or is it better to get dvi on 17" or larger?
