LCD v CRT

I am planning to build myself a new system and there's only one thing left :whenever to get a CRT or a LCD montior. I personally like the sharpness of the CRT and its flexibilty on the resoultions. I like LCD for its space saving and more viewable space. And I also travel -Home to College = 2,500 miles away give or take a few hundreds and I LAN...

19" CRT v a 17" LCD?

I am leaning towards to this CRT. And also I only LAN 2-3 times a year. But there is another issue I fly home for the summer and back to college in the fall. Roundtrip = nearly 6k miles.

Ummm, LCD.... less toxic waste when you get rid of it.

Plus more energy saving, less space. Why not just get a 19" LCD? They are cheap now.

what are you planning to do on your computer...if you need good image quality i suggest you go with a high quality CRT, but if its for everything else, get a LCD, especially with the prices plummeting like they are.

LCDs have better sharpness than CRTs.

CRTs have better color and motion.

LCDs have near perfect geometry/sharpness, but take a small hit on colors and they have ghosting.

Outside gaming, LCDs are a clear winner. With gaming, it depends on the LCD. A cheap LCD either has ghosting and good image quality, or poor image quality and minor ghosting. If you place FPS all the time, that's when you should seriously consider CRTs. Otherwise, I think LCDs are ahead these days.

Neither... 19" LCD... you'll love the real estate!

No, because a 19" gives you no more real estate than a 17" LCD.
It gives you more physical area and makes things ah heck, but in terms of actual usable space, 1280x1024 is still 1280x1024, whether it's on a 17" or 19" LCD.

The step from 1600x1200 CRT to 1280x1024 LCD is horrible, so get the CRT if you like lots of desktop space and can run it 1600x1200, or get the LCD if you were planning on running 1280x1024 on the CRT.

A decent LCD won't have problems with ghosting.

This might should go into the video section - I'm not too sure if this is the correct section. Mod please feel free to move this if I'm in the wrong place.

have fun lugging around 19" crt....

CRT -- 1280x1024 is a ridiculously low resolution, and will have your desktop real-estate insanely cramped. Hell, even 1600x1200 is kinda low, but almost any 19" CRT will do a lot better.

Not to mention, for the price of the 19" LCD, you can buy 3 superior 19" CRTs.

Correction, make that TEN superior CRTs

this CRT is a lot better and will do 2048x1536@66Hz, but it's $159.95 instead of $64.95.

A vote for the CRT here. While LCD's are nice because of their slim design, I just love CRT's for gaming and for watching movies. If vivid colors and high resolution are important to you, especially if you do a lot of graphics work or gaming, go for the CRT. And what brands/models are you leaning towards?

you said you go to LAN's... lugging around a 17" monitor sucked ass... i would much rather have the lcd. also easier on the eyes for me
