LCD TV's...eternal "brand-name" debate

Looking at LCD TV's and there's a significant price premium for traditional TV manufacturers, I was wondering what sort of quality difference we are really dealing with here.

Should I cut back on size for a brand name tv or just buy any brand to maximize size for the budget i am dealing with. Not too sure what the amount will be yet but the question still holds merrit.

I mean the equipment is all made by a few companies, Sharp etc don't make their own LCD's do they?

Sharp makes their own LCD panels. Sony and Samsung share a plant ("S-LCD"). Companies like Syntax use LG+Philips panels...

Not sure about quality differences. Probably nothing major. Sony overprices stuff like hell.

I was looking at these today and the sony's are way expensive but they are easily the best looking out of what they had at BB/CC.

I'm talking difference between Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, Norcent, Kosch, Proview, Prima...
