I browsed all topics on LCD on the board and I did not see one related to it. I am thinking about buying a LCD. and I see the LCD TV. I just wonder is it general the same as a regular LCD plus a tv tuner?

One difference I notice is for LCD TV most of them may be a wild screen with 16:9. Is this the only difference? Because I could buy a regular very good LCD plus a TV tuner with a much cheaper price than the same size and same spec LCD TV.

Any suggestion is high appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Yes, LCD-TVs have internal turners (and lets not forget remote control) and speakers. The prices aren't that outrageously different from normal LCD monitors once you consider the turner and speakers, at least up here in Canada.

Thank you for the information. But TV tuner is not that expensive now. We can get some of them even around $20. One is built in with monitor and one is assembled in computer box. What is the difference you will see?

Another difference I see is for LCD TV you can use it without turn the computer on. With TV card you have to have computer turned on. Can anyone comment on the picture quality etc.?

Thanks a lot,

LCD TV's I've seen have a variety of inputs s-video, RCA (composite) or YPbPr even. Computer Display LCD's many times are limited to VGA and/or DVI.

1) Sometimes LCD TVs are much lower native resolution than a computer display.
2) As rbV5 said, TVs have additional inputs on the back.
3) Integrated tuner and speakers
4) Some LCD TVs are 16:9 aspect ratio. Though, that isn't limited to TVs. You can buy computer monitors in widescreen as well.
5) Some TVs include a scaler or other chipsets to accept a variety of input signals.
