So I got a new 55" LCD tv yesterday and set it up last night. It replaced our 50" plasma I moved downstairs.

In watchign a few hours of tv, it seems that the picture is a little too "crisp"...i.e. it looks more like a home video than a television program. And the motion appears slightly accelerated, like the action is moving just little faster than it should be.

Is this the norm for LCDs? It's an LG with something called TrueMotion that is supposed to reduce motion blur in sports and such. The issues we see are on sitcoms and regular tv shows though.

Any ideas? I don't think either of us can stand to watch this long term.

Yes its the TruMotion stuff, turn it off.

Also, why'd you replace your plasma with an LCD? I could see it if it was a major increase in size (I guess 5" isn't that small [:sneaky:]). Was it old or something? Only 720p?

well, for starters I got the LCD for free. We loved the plasma, it's 50" 1080p. I figured that with the larger size and it being LCD (just moved and now have a window to the side rather than behind the tv) it would be better as our main tv.

My 50" plasma is 6 years old and only 720P. When I replace it, it will be with another Plasma. But it won't be free. :(

It's kind of funny too. My wife always thought the picture looked good. But she was ready for a replacement. Then she got glasses and now thinks the picture is great.

hmmm..wierd....not sure what happened, but I was in looking at settings and now it seems normal. I don't believe I actually changed anything.

Their manual says you can turn it off. (High, Low, Off). P65 of the PDF.

Ok that makes sense. Was curious.

That's odd. You didn't change any modes or anything? I know a lot of TVs if you use Sport or AV it'll do a bunch of different things. I like LG for including their Picture Wizard setup and they're pretty good about letting you access more in depth settings to get a better calibration.

I hate that affect to. I had to turn it off on my Samsung LCD. It can create image tearing too from my experience.

I found the perfect mix with a 120Hz set and no soap opera affect on mine.
