Input lag is totally YMMV (gotta do some research and find a good TV), but text is mostly fine as long as you have 1080p and turn off ALL of the postprocessing crap (e.g. "sharpness").

You are absolutely right about the input lag. I didn't purchase my tv with the idea of using it as a monitor, so I was ok with the slow response time of a PVA panel. I just didn't think it would make that much difference hooked up to a pc. Wrong.

I always use my 32inch lcd hdtv for a monitor, I can't stand using a small monitor.

I've been using a 32" for years, and I recently set my mom up with a HTPC on their 42" for Netflix streaming and Hulu. Works great. Text is a little hard to read, and right now I'm a good 9' away from mine, but the vast majority of my reading on the computer is in Firefox, and Ctrl+scroll wheel up works wonders.

He's insofar correct (ugh, did I really have to write that? Tweakboy?) as you just can't discuss 0.5mm dot pitch or more away, text just CAN'T look as sharp on a 42" 1920x1080 TV as on a 30" 2560x1600 screen - that's just impossible..

...if you look from the same short distance yes, but if you look from where you have same viewing angle, than it should be same sharpness
