LCD that displays well at 800x600

My elderly parents want to get a 17" or 19" LCD for the space saving issue. The problem is, they have been using a 19" CRT running at 800x600 and pretty much want to keep the same res. Does anyone know of a LCD that looks good at that res even though it's not the native?

Your best bet is probably to get a UXGA display; that way the pixels will be doubled, but everything will still be sharp.

if you buy one with a native res of 1600*1200 it should look pretty decent, as it wont be blurring anything, just making each group of 4 pixels essentially one.

I googled uxga and did'nt really understand the definition, guess i'm a noob, lol. Any recommendations of models?

Dell 2001fp 20" is 1600x1200 so it should display 800x600 perfectly.

I have one and run it at 1024x768 (since my eyes are lousy too) and it looks excellent at that resolution too.

VGA = 640 X 480
SVGA = 800 X 600
XGA = 1024 X 768
QVGA = 1280 X 960
SXGA+ = 1400 X 1050
UXGA = 1600 X 1200
QXGA = 2048 X 1536
QSXGA+ = 2800 X 2100
QUXGA = 3200 X 2400

other funky ones like 5:4 or 16:9 or 16:10
WXGA = 1280 X 800
SXGA = 1280 X 1024
WSXGA+ = 1680 X 1050
WUXGA = 1920 X 1200
QSXGA = 2560 X 2048

Dave, you responded to my other post about screen size and the dell 2001fp and pretty much convinced me to get one. I agree, and showed them how it looks at lower resolutions but it's a little too pricey for them. They're not hurting for money but manage they're money like it's still the depression. I was looking for something around $500 or less.

Most modern displays look just fine at resolutions lower than their native res. You and I might not be happy with it (I'd definately notice the slight blurriness) but your parents won't notice or care.

Keep an eye out for sales, mine cost $459 shipped using a couple of coupons from GottaDeal.com (but those particular coupons expired long ago).
