any good programs or web pages to test out a new lcd display??

any guidance on making sure i have it at the optimal resolution? i went with 1280x1024 since that is what the web page said:

yup, I had a single dead red pixel in my Dell 2405. the only time I really saw it was when I first got the display and looked hard for it. I have never seen it or had it bother me during day to day operations of my computer, and believe me.. I use the computer way to much.
