I have two Gem 166s. i bought them a few weeks ago. and i came upon an odd problem.
i was changing some video drivers, but i don't think that had any impact. i rebooted, one of them showed the "power" led and seemed to flicker every now and then, but would not show any signal, and when i turned the computer off, i did not receive the "no signal" message. The other one was ok. i tried switching the signal connectors on the two video cards, but didn't get anything still on that same screen. So in a last attempt, i unplugged the monitor, and brought it over to a different computer, and walah, it works! this puzzled me. i brought it back over to my computer, and again, it works.
now this is my theory:
i think one of the backlights went out. correct me if i am wrong, but most lcds have two backlights, and when one goes out, the other will back it up.
i guess this is good, but it does concern me. if one of the backlights already went out, and i only bought it a few weeks ago... what should i expect for the life of the lcd? and also, i couldn't find any facts about the number of backlights that my specific model uses, nor any other gem lcd model. i am a bit concerned especially because i can only assume there are two, because that is most common, although some use three.
any ideas? also, has this happened to anyone else?
