Why can I get 1920x1200 resolution on a (moderately expensive) 17" laptop, but I need to get a 24" lcd monitor to get that resolution for my pc? I'd like a 1080p capable ~20" monitor, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

None out at the moment. All 20 inch widescreen LCD's are 1680x1050. I'm not sure if anyone would release one at that resolution either.

Sure, if you have a magnifying glass. Everything's pretty small in size on my 24" WS.
I can't imagine what it would like on a 20"

What would the dot pitch be on a 20" 1920x1200 monitor? I'm guessing the answer lies there, but I can't know for sure.

Depends entirely on the maker of the product and quality.

1920x1200 is about perfect on a 15" notebook display.

2560x1600 on this 30" I'm using now is OK but the pitch is a little large.

I guess it boils down to how good your eyes are.

23 inch Apple Cinema Display is 1920 x 1080, for the "reduced" price of $999. :(

Well, If it's got 1920 pixels across and 1200 pixels high and it's got a certain height and width then each pixel can only be so big, and it's my understanding that the dot pitch is how big the pixels are.

The Apple 23" is WUXGA - 1920x1200.
