Hi

So my mom wants to upgrade her 17 inch CRT to a LCD , perferably a 19 inch. I saw this monitor and was wondering if anyone has previous experience with it.

She will be doing mostly work on it plus surfing the net, so no gaming will be done on it. Also, the native resolution on the acer is 1440x900, will everything run smoothly as her computer is like 7 years old and has a very old video card in it? If it cant run in the native resolution, will it look weird on smaller resolutions since it is a widescreen? Any other LCD recommendations? Budget would be around 275 Canadian. Thanks.

Her 17inch would be fine for her current needs, but having a 19inch might be better until you upgrade to the 21inch. ;)

You raised the point about her old video card and a budget.

Is she gonna have to get a new video card ???
What is her old card ????

She most likely will not be getting a new video card anytime soon. Her current one is a GeForce 2 Mx 400

IMO, 19" widescreen is not a great monitor for productivity apps. Also, point about the pixel pitch is very good. She's more likely to be happy running native 12*10 on a standard 19"

There should be no problem running the resolution on the mx400, although many of those cards had nasty 2d quality (some were just fine though, so if everything looks good, no reason to worry).
