>_>

So, I'm currently using a Dell2001FP, and my gf is using a random crappy 17" CRT. We're both planning on upgrading our monitors. Our main use for them will be gaming, as of now we're playing World of Warcraft, and will probably stay in the MMO genre.

Anyways, my question is... do we want to move to widescreen? And is it worth the extra money to to a 22"?

On my hand, I'm already using a 20" LCD, so if I got a new one, I think it would have to be 22", and probably Widescreen, as for her, I don't think she wants to spend as much...

Any peticular LCDs that stand out as good options for us? By the way, I'm using a x1900xtx and she's using a 9800 pro.

Thanks!

Widescreen is definately going to be a treat.

I find that it provides a much more realistic field of view and is much easier on the eyes than traditional monitors.

If you have a 20" 4:3 then i would least go for a 24. You have the same hight as the 20 but with 4 inches to play with on the sides. And if you stay with WoW then that video card will power the 24" monitor easy.

Do gamers really benefit from a widescreen?
I mean the config files you need to edit for games to work at their 'weird' resolutions...is it worth it?
Some games still don't work on widescreen...so i've heard.

Every game I have tried supports WS either natively or through a simple .cfg hack. The lone exception to this is BF2 which is a POS anyway.

As I said above, the viewing angle is amazing for games.

Once you go WS, you wont go back guaranteed.

I'm considering upgrading my 17" CRT to an LCD maybe by December or early 07. But deciding between WS and non-WS is my main problem.
I'm a gamer and i watch movies occasionally. Also, I might be watching cable tv on my pc soon as well...
so where does that leave me?

I just got the Samsung 215TW, same deal as in the HD forum, from Office Depot. I was running a 2001FP just an hour ago, and this is just a 21" now, but a night and day difference from the 2001fp. Much wider it seems, and the colors are much better it seems. Still messing with the settings tho.

I have only run COD so far, the original, and it is stretched in Wide mode, even at 1600/1200, but the 4:3 option on the fly with the monitor fixes Most of that. So in essence, I would say this is a worthy upgrade from the 2001fp no doubt.

BTW, I paid $299 and change out the door for the 215TW, and have the rebate forms for both OD and Samsung, which after getting the rebates back leaves me with $170 out of pocket for this fantastic monitor, can't hardly beat that!

I mailed in an OD $100 rebate for the 215tw. Where did you find the other one? When I go to the Samsung site, it asks you to choose a store where you bought it and that leads you to the OD rebate.

BTW, I've also owned the 2001fp and there is no contest, the Sammy is much better (blacks, holds motion better, better color, no silk screen effect).

Regarding WS compatibility, EA sports is notorious for not supporting WS and their setups are pretty much unhackable.
