End of year build and I am trying to decipher all the Monitor pieces from the forums.
The HP2475w is an H-IPS monitor at 60mhz.
What is the value of H-IPS? When looking at monitors How do you find if they are S-IPS or H-IPS or something else?
What is the advantage of 120mhz vs 60mhz which seems to be the standard? Who has 120mhz?
Where can I find sites that track Monitors with reviews and are current?

Thanks

120mhz? Are we talking about 120hz? That's the monitor's refresh rate. A 60hz monitor can play back video content at up to 60 frames per second as well as frame rates divisible by that number. 120hz can display 120fps. The big advantage with 120hz is the ability to display film source video, which runs at 24fps, without using 3:2 Pulldown. A 60hz display can only display video at 30fps so 24fps sources need to be sped up. For every three frames shown, two are repeated. This can produce a jerky effect when panning. Since 120 is divisible by 23, film sources can be shown at their native frame rate, eliminating the jerkiness. 120hz however is really only necessary if watching Blu-ray videos at full 1080p.

that's the TV defintition of 120hz, it's a little different for PC monitors, as they can actually use a 120hz source.

so far as i know, all 120hz monitors so far are TN panels.

also, read the sticky int he video forum.
