I'm getting an lcd mainly to be kind to my eyes.

Is an 19" lcd with analog good enough or do I really need dvi ?
(My main concern being eyestrain and not minor improvements in image quality)

Also

Everyone worries about dead pixels on new lcd units but what are the chances of
pixels dying/becoming stuck later on?

Any help appreciated...

FYI, you can get the Dell 20" for $679 (see link at GottaDeal.com). It has 1600x1200 native resolution, but my brother has one and says the scaled resolutions of 1280x1024 and 1024x768 both look good on it for text, not just for games.

it shouldn't make a difference for that, since the LCD's pixel size stays the same and so does the (lack of) flicker.

Low, but it does happen. Most likely sooner than later, so it would still be under warranty.

:thumbsup:Thanks for the help

Is Dell's dead pixel warranty better than other companies.

ie. on a dell purchased lcd if a pixel dies/sticks will they replace it within 3 years?

Pretty much everyone has a "some dead pixels allowed" policy not "no dead pixels." They also allow more as the panel size goes up.

With Dell I think you can return it withini 30 days with even 1 pixel, but you pay shipping back to them and the replacement you get back might have 2+ pixels (up to whatever the limit is). You could send that one back too (again paying shipping back) but the third one still might have dead pixels . . .

At 1600x1200 there are 1,920,000 pixels, so don't be too shocked if you get a dead or stuck one.
