Hey all.. quick question here.. on my dell 1900fp I can either run 60hz or 70hz? This is my first lcd.. so is this like a monitor and the higher the refresh rate the better?

I wanna know that as well. Im getting a TFT as well, and it does 60hz, but has a very fast responce time of 16ms.

LCDs don't refresh. They drive all the pixels all the time. So even if the video signal comes in just 60 times per second, it'll still not flicker - simply because it doesn't ever.

the higher the refresh rate, the less tearing you will have, plus it has less eye strain. so yes, the higher the refresh rate, the better.

If that LCD is on an analog (VGA) signal, then the lower the better - because the signal re-digitizing circuitry in the LCD can then phase in with the signal more easily, giving a sharper impression. If it's on DVI, then signal frequency doesn't matter at all for image quality, it's just that a higher feed rate also loads the VGA memory more - you'll get faster rendering at a lower refresh rate ... but that'll be noticeable only when you hit the ceiling of the card's rendering speed.

As for tearing, well that won't happen if you leave VSync-ed rendering enabled - and with the best of LCDs managing a 16 millisecond pixels witch rate, 60 Hz is still exactly sufficient.

funny thing is when I tried running dual 1900FP's on a Matrox Parhelia via the DVI connectors they both go to 1280x1024x75hz... but when I run one on the DVI and one on analog I can get them both to run at 60hz? So running on dual DVI.. is that going to harm the lcd's at 75hz? The picture is fine..
