LCD Projector - Video = black screen help?

i own a sanyo lcd projector. i hook it up to my laptop via a vga cable and everything displays perfectly. however, if im playing a video in wmp, on the projector screen, it shows everything except the video , which is all black. so what i see is the desktop, the wmp with a black screen as if the video isn't playing when in fact is shows up fine on my laptop.

anyone know what's wrong?
