A new Xperia Z Ultra I received is showing a weird symptom. I noticed it on its home screen while trying out wallpapers. I am seeing pixels trembling along horizontal lines when I scroll screens. Well, I cannot literally see individual pixels so it's more like a bunch of pixels. I saw this first on orange background, and proceeded to check out red, green, and blue wallpapers.

I found it happens only on green so far, and it is especially pronounced when the screen is touched or scrolled horizontally. But it is seen on other colors that need more green than red/blue, such as orange and yellow. I do not see the same problem when the screen is blue or red. I was able to capture this problem on green on a camera below.

The horizontal lines probably indicate where the light bulbs sits under the panel. But I am not an expert on display tech so I decided to ask whether this is something that can be "fixed" on my end before I submit an RMA request.

have this phone but not noticed this on mine (over a year old now too). not sure if flashing to a new rom (officially i mean, not custom via sonys software?) might help. think they suggest doing that for any probs first anyway

The phone is literally a day old and I do not think I will flash anything. ^^ I would rather get a replacement or return it. I was looking for a simpler fix, if such thing exists.. I found silly Youtube videos claiming to fix LCD problems (see below) but I do not know what they do.

i dont mean flash as in root/unlock etc. intsall sonys software and it downloads the latest version of android for your phone and installs it iirc. did that with mine ages ago. it's not difficult or tricky in the least. it's a "click next a few times" scenario.

i doubt what you have is software issue but before you return it monday, you could try this today/tomorrow

Ah, I see. Sorry I misunderstood.

I did what you suggested (thank you), but unfortunately it did not help. I even ran one of those funky videos for an hour or so but that did not help, either.

Otherwise the phone seems solid. I am still getting used to the size - it's amazing how human perception changes. When I opened the box to see this "phone," my first reaction was "WTF." I am still not comfortable or confident about its size but I feel differently than I did just two days ago.

yea, i know what you mean. i had a note 2 beforehand and it was tiny next to this phone. sounds like you'll have to take it back though

Do you know how to get into the stock recovery? I tried several methods (mix and match of power + volume up/down buttons) to no avail.

doesn't have one from what i recall.

you can flash dual recovery easily enough (go to the xda forums for that). but if you have a fault on a new phone i'd take it back before messing around any further
