I have a 3 year old insipron 600m with a 1400x1050 resolution LCD screen and a mobility radeon 9000 AGP, 64Mb ram.

A few days ago while trying to play starcraft, my computer repeatedly tried and failed to switch resolution from 1400x1050 to 800x600 (this occurs automatically when booting up starcraft). After switching between a blank screen and my desktop with some error message a few times, I got a crazy Blue screen of death that kicked out some wild technical details I've never seen before, so I just turned off my computer for the night. The next morning I found that my screen contains vertical blue lines that appear to be 1 pixel wide, run all the way from the top to the bottom of my screen, and span the entire horizontal distance of my screen at a regular spacing of ~3-5 pixels. The lines are in the background such that if I move images around, the lines stay fixed.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue or not, but the blue lines disappear for a split second during the initial boot sequence when the windows symbol is present on the black background, leading me to believe that this may be a software issue.

I have updated my video card and motherboard drivers as well as my motherboard bios. I have been trying to find a fresh bios for my video card, but have not had success so far...

If anyone has any suggestions as to the source and/or solution of the problem, I would appreciate any help.

thx,
peter

Sounds like it is the internal vid card.

Can you try hooking up an external monitor - see if you get the same (I think you will).

If it is the internal card, then only a new mobo will do it, and it probably is cheaper to get a brand new lappy.

Actually plugging it into an external LCD display was one of the first things I tied? and it worked just fine. I don?t know much about monitors, but could it be a problem with the inverter or with the cable that runs from my video card to the screen?
