I hope this belongs here, if not... please move to General Hardware or where ever it belongs

Samsungs 181T, 191T, 121T or the Eizo L685? I've never seen an Eizo screen... anyone have one? The samsungs seem to have great image quality, but i heard that the Eizo rivals or beats it. This would be for my father, who doens't game.... SOMETIMES a seldom played game of Porsche Unleashed..... but he mainy stares at massive spreadsheets and code for hours and hours on end.... 12-16 hour days

Could anyone help me out?

If you got the money, the 121T!
that's a no brainer!

I saw one of those beauties at Compusa and the image is simply stunning!
I don't know why you would even consider this model for spreadsheet and coding use.
Seems like a waste.

The 191T...
Yes, it's a 19" LCD, but the max & native resolution is only 1280x1024.
I think anything that big should have a higher resolution. I would image it's quite big.
18" at that resolution looks big.
I think the 181T would be the best choice. You can find a review at ianotageek.com.

well, it's my dad's company, and they feel like wasting money i guess..... since they have a lot of meetings in my dad's office, i guess he wants to give it a more up scale apperance, than having that big fat 21" trinitron sitting on his desk :D

eizo is a pro cad monitor company. They used to be called nanao. I am sitting in front of a 9 year old 21" nanao pro cad monitor, that i used for basically web browsing. this thing is awesome and considering its age, is still very good. cant go wrong with eizo.

The larger the LCD's, do they suffer from blurry text? or are they sharp as long as they're in their native resolution? The largest i've used it a mid-grade 17" from Dell. If it's 21" from samsung, would the brightness be sufficient and would the text be sharp? I just really don't have any knowledge about LCD panels :(

I'll check on samsungs website for that URL Apex, but last time i checked, they had it's model number there, but no info on it......

A friend bought 2 eizo L685's for his desktop and i saw them last week beside his old Nokia LCD panel. I have to tell you they were damn impressive. Very bright and incredibly sharp. Better seemingly than my Planar. The thin bezel was very nice as well. they were run off of an appix (sp?) DVI card. Any decent panel at its native rez will be pretty sharp. Once you scale things get blurry.

Dell has a new 19" (from samsung i think) panel at 1280x1024" or maybe even thier 20" which will run at 1600x1200, the latter will presumably be just as sharp at 800x600

I currently use the Dell 2000fp LCD for both gaming and database work. It is a very bright and easy to read LCD. I play all the FPS games like Quake III, Unreal Tourney, Alien vs Predator II, etc... with no apparent ghosting effects. Granted I'm running a 733mhz with a Geforce II Pro so I'm not approaching Godlike framerates of 250 or so but I run the games at 1280x1024 and they look sweet.

It's nice for database work, I can have multiple queries, tables, and VB macros open at the same time. Turning on CLEARTYPE for text effects really makes the letters jump out of the screen. GOT APEX pointed out a deal on these LCD's last year at $1400 and then 15% off that plus free shipping. I think they normally run 1600 bills or so. Here's some stats on the LCD I copied from Dell's accesories page:

Screen type Active matrix - TFT LCD
Screen dimensions Diagonal 20.1 inches (510.0 mm)
Horizontal16.1 inches (408.0 mm)
Vertical 12.1 inches (306.0 mm)
Pixel pitch 0.255 mm
Viewing angle +/- 80° (vertical) typical, +/- 80° (horizontal) typical
Luminance output 240 CD/m2 typical, 200 CD/m2 minimum
Contrast ratio 350 to 1 typical, 250 to 1 minimum
LCD surface coating Hardness 3H, antiglare treatment
Backlight 6 CCFL type

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution
Horizontal scan range 31 kHz to 80 kHz (automatic)
Vertical scan range 56 Hz to 76 Hz (automatic)
Optimal preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 60 Hz
Highest preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 60 Hz

By all accounts the Dell 20" is a great panel - one of the best available. I use a Viewsonic 19" - 1280x1024 - and love it. I can use several windows at once and X-mouse easily between them without losing sight of them once focus changes. I can only imagine a bigger screen is even better, and usually the biggest screens are the latest ones... Very sharp, no blurriness at all edge to edge.
