LCD panels used in small electronics

My old lg vx8300 cell phone had an OLED front screen with a TN panel as the main screen. The OLED was nice because it had no degradation of colors as you changed your angle but the main screen was easily a TN panel because of the quick color shifting.

But now I look at my lg vx9700 and my canon sd790is screens and they don't exhibit the color shifting TN panels have (the colors don't invert) so i wonder what sort of screens are they using.

TFT hardly tells me what sort of panel (eg. TN, PVA) a screen has. All computer panels are TFT panels.
