Too be honest, I don't really need either. But I have a choice between a 19in LCD or parts for a new system (a super system, and all I would need would be a case and hard drive).

Which is the better choice in your opinion?

EDIT:
Current system is Dell 400sc 2.4Ghz HT, 800fsb, 1gb ecc ram, 9800 pro, 200gb hdd
Current monitor: CRT 20" IBM

I'm considering using the componants of a potentialy new machine for a HTPC.

How is your current computer?

Personally, you said you don't need either, spend it on something else or just save it

Well it kind of depends on what your current system is. And you didn't specify what the ram and vid cards are so as of right now it could just be a good processor with really subpar equipment.

Oh how wise those words are. It was great to be in HS and have so much expendable income, but once you go to college and have $0, what I wouldn't give to have some of the money back from those silly purchases.

Don't get an LCD unless you have a DVI-D video card. You will be disappointed w/ the analog signal. Also, remember that you need to stick to the native resolution for the best picture.

personally, i'd sit on both

your system is fine, your moniter is fine : i would just leave it as is.
(though between the two, i'd go for the LCD assuming it is still <16ms lag times, and had DVI with a videocard that did dvi)

If it was a 939 setup you were upgrading to...then maybe ;)

But as it is, i'd say the LCD.
