i have about 500$ set on a new tv.....im looking to get hdtv...any quick opionions on what would be a better choice in that price range?

basically....is is worth getting a 19" lcd over a 30" flat tube

get the flat tube

i got one, a sony 34inch widescreen. awesome.

circuitcity has the panny 30inchws for 599 i think

great deal on a nice tv

Yeah, for a $500 budget, definitely go w/ a flat tube. 19" LCD is tiny, really really tiny. The minimum LCD size to get is 32".

I would go for 30" over 19". That said I have no idea whether you can buy a 30" flat screen HDTV for $500.00.

thanks for the replies i guess im going with the flat tube

i saw a samsung sam txp3064w and a philips phl 26pw8402 at circuity city open box both around 500....anybody know if these are good models

or have any other suggestions of nice models within my price

As someone else pointed out... Id go with...

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasoni...atOid/-12868/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Great deal on a 30", get a larger screen for about the same cost. They had the 26" version for $399 last week but thats past. Id try to come up with an extra $100 and get the 30"

If space isnt an issue ,definitly go with the flat tube. In fact, you will even get a better picture with a tube.

If you can afford another $199 you can get the Syntax Olevia LT32HVM 32" HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV AR
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-description/B000B9UX6Q/

Time to update your old-technology CRT TV? Zoom into the future with the 32-in ch Olevia LT32HVX flat-panel LCD TV, which is HDTV-ready. It incorporates the latest v ideo processing technology--Syntax's iDEA--as well as the enhanced iDIVA virtual surro und sound processing. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs also make it equally suitable for home offices. It offers a black cabinet with speakers integrat ed in each side and a removable table-top stand; it's wall-mountable with an optional kit (VESA-compatible--100 x 200). It features a built-in, 181-channel NTSC tuner and c an receive high-definition (ATSC) broadcasts from an optional HD receiver.

This LCD TV provides a 1280 x 720-pixel native resolution for a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio for optimal letterbox movie watching and compatibility with 1080i/720p/480p/480 i video formats. It also offers an extra-wide 170-degree viewing angle, fast 12ms (mil lisecond) response time, 700 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 7 50:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to dis play subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The LT32HVS performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for wat ching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 fra mes-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated ; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant informati on to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D comb filter further enhances resolution b y removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of c olor along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a charact er's striped T-shirt). It provides PIP and split screen functionality between two diff erent video sources. Other convenience features include selectable aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9), channel return, favorite channel, closed captioning, clock/alarm, sleep timer, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 20-watt stereo audio system (two 10-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. The iDIVA virtual surround sound provides you with several easily adjusta ble settings that simulate an array of audio environments. It offers the following con nection options:

* Composite AV (RCA): 2 in
* S-Video: 2 in
* Component video: 2 in
* DVI: 1 in
* PC VGA: 1 in
* RF: 1 in
* Analog audio (RCA, L/R): 1 out
* Audio inputs: AV/S-Video x 2, Component x 2, Mini - Stereo Jack x 1
