I have heard that the Wii looks like trash on LCD's but I really don't want to buy another behemoth CRT. Any advice? Thanks.

I've never heard that the Wii looks considerably worse on an LCD, but if there were any truth in it, I'd suspect it's because the LCD is forced to display a 720x480 picture which isn't going to be native res for an LCD.

I've got my Wii hooked up to a 23" Samsung 720p LCD and it looks like horse sh!#!

Scaling a 480p signal to 720p stinks. I hooked it up to a 13" CRT and it did look a lot better.

Why didn't Nintendo just support 720p? My kids play the damn thing but I'll never touch it because I can't stand blurry graphics due to the scaling.

They believed that less than 10% of people had HD sets or appreciated the extra sharpness. Besides if the Wii was in HD, it would drive costs up.

But yeah, I hate it that the Wii looks like crap compared to the other two.

but yet they're still sold out at tons of retailers but you can walk in and buy either of the other 2.

graphics don't make games fun.

oh, and 480p looks great on 42" and below. it looked like ass on my stepdad's 65" plasma though.

Ya most LCDs will struggle at scaling 480i/480p content compared to a CRT (which doesnt have to scale) I hooked up Wii to my NEC 20WMGX2 with Component cables and was suprised how BAD it looked (480P) also it seems LCDs have worse motion blur when running out of there native res , this was very apparent when running around in Zelda , Overall Wii looks FAR better on my 34" XBR960 CRT HDTV.

I guess it's a good thing I chose a 30" Samsung HDTV CRT then to pair up with my Wii instead of an LCD :p
That and it was like twice as cheaper at the time. Games look great on my set (as great as a Wii game can look)

First time I've heard of this, but then again most of my friends who have a Wii don't even have an HDTV. Does make sense though.

I've hooked up my Wii to LCD, Plasma, and CRT w/ component cables.

Looks great on LCD (Olevia 332H) and Plasma (Panny).

Why on earth would anyone buy a CRT these days :)

You're not going to find one of those. Just get a normal 480i CRT before they're all gone. Wii will look best on that...Or a 42" ED plasma

Wii looks much better on a CRT HDTV w/ Component cables (480p) vs. a Standard def CRT running the same Component cables (which would be 480i), Ive tried it on my standard def Wega and although it looked decent it was no match for my XBR960 HDTV.

Tried to get a decent pic off my CRT (Wii @ 480P) It came out decent for a digicam shot I suppose: Pic

At the screen sizes you're talking about, a PC monitor would work great, LCD or CRT, either one that accepts component in (like the high end dells) or use a component to vga transcoder (like the vdigi or x2vga).

If you go for an LCD screen, try to get one with the highest resolution possible plus best scaler, or just one with the closest res to a whole multiple of 640x480. 1280x960 would be ideal, but since those are uncommon, 1280x1024 should be good since many Gamecube games actually were 640x520 or something.

Then again, many games are going widescreen now, so that confuses things even more, though I expect most wii games will be 4:3 only or designed around 4:3.

I think I'd suggest an ED Plasma or LCD if you want to purchase it mainly because of the Wii's non-HDness. You can find these for $400-500 pretty regularly.

I have my Wii hooked to a 42" Westy LCD, and it looks plenty good enough for me. THis is with component cables... before getting the component cables, it looked like ass.
