3. ViewSonic VP171b, ~$540 shipped
4. DELL UltraSharp 1703FP, ~$530 shipped

Any suggest / advice is highly appreciated

I appreciate this isn't one on your list, but have a look at the Hitachi CML 174SXW. A number of members have this LCD and love the darn thing. 🙂

I've done a little research and I'm going to reccomend looking into the Hercules ProphetView 920 Pro. ($500)

From my personal findings, seems to be an outstanding 17" LCD, and I hope to order one within the next few months.

Does Viewsonic VP171s/b looks grainy in video clips and animation? I just bought the Sony HX73 (16ms, 0.264mm, 400cd/m2, 500:1, DVI+Analog) and will evaluate its performance fully before decided to keep. I run at 1280x1024 native reso at 32bit color setting, through DVI from the Asylm Geforce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB DDR. So far, I am quite happy in almost all aspect except the image quality.

First of all the color depth is not as rich as CRT. The winxp wall papers looks a bit grainy and as if I am looking into a 16bit color monitor. I also played a few video clips and animations such as WC3 Preview trailers and some MTV video clips and I couldn't be more disappointing.

For those who use Viewsonic VP171b/s, do you have this limitation?

Thanks

Dell's awesome 2001FP is onsale with 25% off now for $750. 20" LCD with 16ms response time. Lowest I seen for a long while. And you don't even need dell coupon for this price. Dell Small Business.

But I heard many bad reviews regarding Dell's customer service lately. Besides, the LCD only come with 1 year of warranty. To extend it you need to pay for another $100. Even worst, you need to have at least 10 dead pixel for replacement (even at 17" LCD). Therefore I feel relunctant on Dell products these days...

Dell's service hasn't been good for a long while (ever since they became too big of a company to care), but their products and prices are still the best in the industry. Can't have everything. I bought 1910FP, and the experiences with the LCD has been nothing but postitives. No dead pixel for me, but obviously that's no gurantee for any company.
