LCD needs a major cleaning....what's the proper way to do it?

I have an 1801FP from a long time ago. I rub it with a microfiber cloth to get fingerprints, etc., off, but there's stuff on there that the cloth won't take off. What is the proper compound to clean the screen? I get the feeling alcohol-based ones are not really a good idea, so what is?

Be careful, I used some stuff made specifically for LCDs I got at Compusa and it almost ruined a laptop screen of mine, I use and recommend Klear Screen, it is a little expensive but works great.

I've used various cleaning sprays and none of them have damaged the LCD in any way. Some of them do work better than others though. The orange-based cleaners tend to leave some sticky residue. I've also used isopropyl alcohol, and that seems to work fine, and other than the annoying initial smell, it doesn't leave any residue and gets the grease off nicely. Easy to get and cheap.

I get excellent results using a mix of water, vinegar, and simple green. Probably around 3/4 water and a couple of tablespoons of simplegreen (just enuf to make the water/vinegar a pale green).
