Hey guys,

I've been waiting forever and trying to dig up some information on LCD technology, but there just isn't all that much. What I'm after, is wether or not the LCD monitors are at a stage of development where the refresh times are down below 10ms, or in otherwords as good as a top-line CRT monitor for gaming, and graphics design etc. ?

I think Mitsubishi had a promised technology that would push rise-and fall times down to around the 10ms mark? This was atleast 2 years ago now I think it was, but I don't see any LCD displays advertised with lower than mid 25ms refresh times.

Any info?

There are 16ms LCDs out now, but I think they don't get any bigger than 17".

humm ... still, after all this time.

No 19 or 21" 'ers worth buying yet I guess? That too bad.

Dell is coming out with a 20" 1600x1200 16ms LCD soon. It's called the 2001fp and you can buy it now but only if you get a Dell XPS system. I think in about a month it will be standalone and cost around $900. True 24bit color 16ms panels experience no noticable trailing in games, so you don't really need anything much lower.

Wow, awesome ...

So let me get this straight, the Dell monitor has a full 16.7 million colours, 16ms avg rise/fall and a native resolution of 1600x1200 :) If so I'm a happy camper, exactly what I've been waiting the last 3 yeards for.

Hopefully it does do true 24bit with that response time, as I know the 16ms LCD's now only acheive 16ms with about 256,000 colours -or something like that anyways, forget the actual #-

Very good news :) Thanks Earthworm!

Btw, is there a link somewhere with the specs you could point me towards?

Hmm, well Dell's 2000fp is presently $1100.00 as a standalone.

So, an advanced model at $900 sounds unlikely.

Will have to see it to believe it.

the price does sound a little low.

I love the crispness of the LCD's; but they're not worth it for me if they don't support full 24bit colour for graphics design, and a fast enough rise/fall for games and Flash/high framerate animation.

Those are the things I need most, and currently no consumer level LCD is good enough for both applications.

Have to still play the waiting game for a few more months :p

I found a link on Dells site about the monitor, all it states is 16ms rise/fall, 1600x1200 20" but it doesn't say anywhere wether or not it has full 24bit colour .... if it doesn't advertise that I doubt it has it :(
