LCD monitors VS. LCD HDTV sets

I was going to buy a nice 24 " widescreen LCD monitor for ~600. But then I saw that i could get a 1080p hdtv set for about 600 more.

Can I use the Tv set as a computer monitor and be fine? If so, why don't more people d this?

Cause it's $600 more, lower resolution (1920x1200 vs 1920x1080), too big to be practical on a desk, and at closer distances it wouldn't look as sharp.

But yes, you could do it, provided you have the correct inputs/outputs.
