i have an HP 734n. i had an envision EN-1700e LCD monitor. a 17" on the low end, and i LOVED it. it was so perfect everything was clear and nice. after 3 years though, the backlight died. i couldn't get it replaced so i decided to buy a new monitor.
i got a samsung 712n, which i heard good reviews of everywhere. and it SUCKS! (on my computer). the colors are way too bright, even on lower brightness, the gamma never seems to be correct, there are yellowish tints on some places where it should be gray (upper left of firefox where the file menu option is), the text has some nasty white pixels around it making it a nightmare to read (though can be slightly remedied by lowering the "sharpness" setting in the monitor itself). and yes i've tried all the monitor calibration software i can get my hands on.
lastly, i have an nvidia MX420 64mb video card.
now for the kicker, i plugged in my gf's old computer, with prolly 8 or 16MB of video memory, integrated into its mobo. the computer is an emachines celeron 600mhz or something. yet when i put the monitor in there, it looks perfect! i don't know what to do anymore. i ordered a cheap geforce FX5200XT 128MB card out of despiration and perhaps that'll work better.
how about exchanging the monitor for one with DVI? i heard they don't need to be calibrated and are just perfect from the start. this sucks so much....i don't know what to do. i tried uninstalling/installing the nvidia drivers, got the newest ones from the nvidia site...any help would be VERY much appreciated.
thank you!
