Lcd monitors bad for your eyes?

That's nonsense. What does cause cataracts is microwaves. If you stand in front of a radar dish, your corneas will cloud

Yes, that's because they look like shit. Your eyes would rather produce cataracts protein than continue exposing themselves to poor contrast ratios and no color fidelity to speak of. Get yourself a good CRT and you should be fine.

she said her doctor told her this information. i was just wondering if it had any truth behind it, because she is known to tell a lie every now and then!

CRT = fuzzy with age = eyestrain. I'll take my discreet pixels kthx! And color fidelity is fine with a S-PVA screen. As for contrast ratios, who sits there looking at a dark scene complaining about how blacks aren't black

I can't comment on long-term use, but my headaches and eyestrain went away after upgrading to an LCD from a CRT.

..particle emission from CRT's are greatly suspected as a cause of numerous eye problems including cataracts. Even so called "low emission crt's" are considered a sorce of eye problems.

The only eye related issue I know of possibly by caused by LCDs is something about eye dryness from lack of blinking. Basically, the quality and lack of refresh rate on LCDs creates such a clear image that your body can forget the need to blink for long periods of time and your eyes dry out. It doesn't happen to everyone, just some people.

lol thats hilarious...it was just a thought, i didnt think so many people would reply...seems to have struck up an interesting topic

one of the reasons I bought my LCD is that I've found that LCD's caused less eye-strain than my CRT's (so the LCD is the primary, the CRTs sit on either side throwing cathode rays at my face, but at least I don't spend all my time staring at them).

It might just be my CRTs are older, and the newer ones cause less strain.

Must be one of those hardcore CRT users who never switched. I had a state of the art CRT. So what? Using an LCD was like night and day difference. If you pick up one of those crap TN panels with crappy contrast yea it'll hurt your eyes. Certain panels like the Samsung 930B totally sucked, but if you got something decent, it would lower eye strain anyday.

Even 100 Hz CRTs won't save your eyes. It hurts so bad after you use an LCD.

Try playing a game like DOOM or STALKER on an LCD, and then a CRT, and you'll never want to play games on an LCD again.

I play both those games on my 24 inch BenQ widescreen & it looks great ... this is coming from a 21 inch trinitron too.
