I've been thinking about getting a new monitor for a while, and looking at the sub-$200 offerings, Acer seems to have the best stuff, and 21.5" with 1080p seems pretty sweet. Any reason to get the 22" @ 1680 over that? The 21.5" seems like a pretty sweet deal.

22" @ 1680x1050 - $160 shipped

21.5" @ 1920x1080 - $180 shipped

The 21.5 will have shaper pixels (smaller pixel pitch). Some people like larger pixels like on the 22" because otherwise "everything is really little".

As the last post states, the pixels are much smaller on the 21.5" 1080p monitor. This will probably make games looks very nice, but might make the monitor harder to use for everyday work if your eyes aren't perfect. The pixel size would be too small for me (but I usually use a 27.5" 1920 x 1200 LCD for everyday work).

Just up the DPI if your eyes can't handle it. Unless you use some niche program that will solve any problems you have with a small dot pitch, and you'll still get the gaming goodness.

I have the 22" Acer, had I known the pixels, and everything, would look bigger here than on my 1600x1200 19" I wouldn't have gotten it. I like having small icon and letters, makes everything feel more roomy, and the games seemd a lil stretched on the 22" over the 1600 19"

I am looking into selling my current one at getting that 21.5" or a 23" Acer at 1920x1080

I went with the Asus 21.5" 1080p from the egg for $189 a few mos. back. I love the smaller pixels, but I have "better than 20/20" vision according to my doc. Do you have a hard time focusing in on small detail? If not, you will love this purchase!

btw- went with the Asus over the Acer due to the 2ms gtg. refresh rate. To be honest, I still have looked up the meaning of gtg.

Edit: Wish I would have paid the extra $80 and gotten a 24" or was it 23.5", oh well.

I have 27" on 1920x1200, my eyes are not bad, but after coding for 9 hours/day I can't hunt those small letters down.

Usually people go for sharpest image in high dot pitch, but eventually they start falling back into bigger screens.
