I used to use CRTs for the longest time and I treated em like crap. Left em on all day, screensaver be damned.
I got a pair 2001fps use a couple of months back, and it never occured to me whether I should be using screensavers or powersaving or what not. I've been told I shouldn't use screensavers for lcds, so what I do usually is just turn off the monitors whenever I'm not using them. It might be only 10 minutes later that I need to use it again, and turn the monitors on again. Would it be better to put on powersaving? Does it matter? What's better for the monitor?
