lcd monitor resolution problems

Lifer
i have an acer al1912 19" lcd monitor.
it will not let me use 800x600 resolution. i can use 1280x1024 (native), 1024x768, and 640x480. i just got c&c first decade and tried to play generals and zero hour, but they want to run in 800x600 by default. i can hear the game loading and stuff but i get unsupported resolution type error. refresh rate is set to 60.

i got generals when it 1st came out by itself and it worked fine, i'm assuming it started at 1024x768 resolution by default though.

i found resolution settings in the ini.big file but when i change them, the game will not load.
i don't know what to do now.

I can assume it is safe to say you have the latest drivers. If so, go to My Document and the C&Cgenerals and C&C zero hr. and delete the Options.ini file then restart the game and see if this fixes the issue.

latest drivers for what? video card? monitor?

its the monitor thats causing the problem, not the video card.
i downloaded drivers for the monitor but when i try to update it it says i already have the best software for it. its using the windows xp pro drivers from 2001. the monitor drivers are from 2004 i think. i can't figure out how to make it use the drivers.

Been a long time, but I know exactly what you're talking about. There is a way to force it to use the monitor driver you have.....even if it says "the best software is installed". Look at it again because that inf file must be in there (registered with windows) to get the most out of your monitor.
