LCD monitor refresh rate

I'm running my LCD on a MatroxG450 at 1280x1024@60hz as suggested in the LCD manual and it looks great.

Recently my friend gave me his old AIW radeon so I gave it a try. Using the same settings, the screen looked blurry. I changed it to 75hz and it looked what I had when running my G450 at 60hz.

So why is this? I check on the LCD monitor and it's really running at 75hz. Shouldn't the same settings give same result even on different vid cards?

Also btw, I've read refresh rates doesn't really apply to LCD monitors. So what's going on when I change the refresh rate? It makes a difference I can see.

Thanks in advance.

My LCD monitor looks blurry when I change refresh rates. It gets better as soon as I hit the auto adjust button. I have a BenQ 19" LCD (16 ms). The blurriness only happens once, after which it remebers the settings. When I switch computers, it forgets the settings, and I have to auto adjust again.
