Hi I recently bought the Dell 2000FP LCD monitor. I am just curious on the life expactancy of LCds monitors. I normally set the monitor to turn it off after 20 mins. However, I want to know if I turn it on and off 5 times a day will it curtail its life expantancy? In addition, will it be better for me to turn it off right away after I used it while leave the computer on or to let the clock turn it off by itself?

some helpful insight would be very appreciated.

LCD screens can be left on for hours at a time before SLIGHT damage occurs. CRT screens is where you have to set it to turn off after 30 minutes to help improve life expectancy.

LCD's havea shorter lifespan than CRT's though. they loose contrast. Plasma's are really bad IIRC. something like 50% loss in 5 years is what I saw posted a while ago. don't quote me :)

I have had an LCD for about a year. KOGI brand. No problems yet. looks good as new.

LCDs have a life expectancy of about 30,000 hours. That's roughly 3.4 years if you run it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
