LCD Monitor and VOOM HDTV

Basically, I want to get a 20"(ish) LCD monitor for my room with a 1600x1200 resolution. I also am getting VOOM in my room, and I would like to watch the HDTV stuff on my monitor.

The problem lies in the inputs of the monitor and output of the VOOM STB.

Most of the monitors have one DVI input, and at least one D-SUB or HD15 input (D-SUB and HD15 pretty much = VGA). I want to use the DVI connection for my computer because I want the best picture for my computer monitor possible, as it is primarily a monitor not a "TV."

The VOOM STB has several outputs. DVI, component, composite, s-video, coaxial...just not any HD15/VGA. VOOM STB Manual

What would be the best way to connect my VOOM STB to a monitor? I don't want to be constantly switching between DVI connections, and if the monitor has PIP, I'd like to use it.

Do I use a DVI to VGA cord? Is there some kind of DVI-female splitter where I could have two DVI connections to one DVI input on my monitor? Do I get a component to VGA cable?

At this point, I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Dell 2001FP LCD has four inputs: DVI, VGA/HD15, S-Video, and composite video. I've got some 18" LCDs from Eizo which have 2 DVI inputs. I would imagine that Eizo (and others) have larger models with a such options.

Finally, you may actually want to test your PC's video output on DVI and HD15. You might be surprised that the difference is much less than you currently anticipate.

use the DVI with the VOOM box and the D-Sub with your computer. comparisons of DVI vs. D-Sub from a graphics card standpoint have been mixed and tend to rely on personal preferences so try it for yourself.

That's not a bad idea. Thanks guys, I think i'm about to buy my monitor then 🙂 I think I've decided on the Samsung 213T.
