LCD Looks Funny/weird??!!??

I recently got my new 19in. LCD. It's a Viewsonic VP930b and I have to say it's really, really nice. No ghosting and all that good sh!t, blah blah blah.

My question is this: It looks to me that there is something on the screen, possibly a coating of some sort??? Is this normal on LCD monitors? It's really hard to explain. It's like there's something there that isn't there. And no, it's not the plastic thing they put over it.
When I get close to it it's like I can see the pixels or something??? (I have no idea what I'm talking about!).
Could I possibly be sitting to close to the monitor? I though LCD's were sharper than what I'm looking at now.
Could it possibly just need a cleaning? If so what would you recommend to clean the LCD monitor?

Thanks

EDIT: I have also heard people complain about an X shape thing on the monitor due to blacklight leakage. It's visable, but only on the factory settings which are WAY to bright, and also only visable on a black screen.
Now with a black screnn I don't see any leakage. Just though I'd get that out there.

Probably screen door effect or lack of contrast. Also, CRTs blur the pixels across the glass for a smooth image (which has disadvantages in and of itself). LCDs are just a crude array of pixels. 19" monitors also have big dot pitches and that can contribute to that effect.

I know it's not lack of contrast. I guess I'll just have to get use to the LCD monitor. It's my first LCD.

Err...lack of brightness I should have said. Most CRTs (even $5000 AGs) actually only reach 100 cd/m² at 9500K and LCDs reach far in excess of that. If it was really dim, you could see the pixels easier I bet. The reason CRTs are touted as higher contrast is because of their black level. Just a couple (possibly unnoticeable in under a certain amount) candelas lower on the black level will make that contrast rating much higher.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the way the LCD shows the pixels. It's not in a smooth fashion.

I don't know, but your monitor probably isn't dirty. That's just the way LCDs are.

For cleaning, I turn the LCD off. Then I just stroke the panel with a damp (with water) cloth with light pressure and nothing bad has happened but there's probably better substances.
