I just bought a new Samsung 710n from Newegg.com last week. It worked fine until today. I was playing Fallout Tactics (old game kinda). And the monitor just went black so I pushed the restart button. Tried playing again and it did it again after like 2-3 minutes. So I restarted again but this time when I got to the desktop screen windows was still loading some taskbar icons w/e and my monitor went black again.

I tried swapping out the video card my X800XL agp with a Tnt2 but it still did it. Or it worked for a little and like 5 minutes later it did it. Also tried using a different monitor cable.

If you push the power button on the monitor to turn it off and turn it back on you get your image back and it works fine.

I have the latest drivers for the video card/monitor.

Any ideas on whats wrong? Is it broke should I get a new one?

Thanks,

Try using another monitor. Also try booting into safe mode and seeing if it still does it. If it doesn't, then you probably have some setting set that's out of the LCD's scope (i.e. refresh rate).

Nevermind I found the alternative DVI method and noise reduction or w/e.

Will see how it works.

Anyone think this could be because the x800xl isnt getting enough power?

300W PSU (which is the recommended minimum for a x800)

I have 1 SATA Hd
X800XL
2 CD-ROMs
Wireless lan card
2 80 mm fans
Floppy
P4 2.8E
1 GB PC3200 ram
Asus p4p800-e deluxe motherboard

Im thinking no. Think about it. If it was the power you your XL then why would turning the monitor back on get your screen back to normal again? Usually if they dont get enough power turning the monitor on and off doesnt fix it. Try that other monitor for a few hrs. Tell us what happens. If it stays fine, then try the LCD on a diff comp. Report your findings.

Changed monitors now using a Lg L1720p and it works fine on my computer. I put the Samsung 710n on the other computer and it still turns off sometimes.

Guess its going back to Samsung. NewEgg won't take monitors back.

Since I bought it a week ago, Samsung will send me a new one not a refurbished one.
