LCD Issue: Blacks out for a second

So, on my barely used (1 week old) Dell 2209WA, sometimes the monitor flashes black for about a second for no apparent reason, just when I'm in windows doing work or on the internet, and this happens fairly frequently now.

Any idea why? I use this screen in a dual monitor set up with a 19"er, both connected to an ATI X1950XT.

I have had this with certain LCDs using certain ATI video cards. I have no idfea why it happens, as the LCDs and video cards wwork fine when paired with other hardware. In any case, I've been able to fix this by going into the ATI drivers (Catalyst Control Center) and going to the Digital Panel section, and selecting "Alternate DVI Operational Mode" or sometimes "Reduce DVI frequency on hish resolution displays").

I second kmmatney's experience. X1900GT with Benq 24" on DVI periodically goes black for about a second. Enabling "Alternate DVI Operational Mode" corrects it.

I have a BenQ 24" and have the same issue with both a 8800GT and a 4870 and it was more frequent with the 8800GT...I'm guessing it's something to do with the cable.
