LCD - Have $1,000 to spend - which one???

Hey peeps. I'm in the market for a new lcd screen but with all the choices I don't know which one to get. I've read that Viewsonic and Samsung are the way to go but I just can't decide so I turn to you. I'm a gamer so ghosting would be a big problem for me. I'm not really attached to the big names so brand name really won't be an issue. I'm also concerned with the dead pixel issue so I wouldn't want to buy a monitor and be stuck with a messed up screen. I need to be able to return it for an exchange or something. What can I get within my budget? Thanks for your help.

I heard the Dell 2001FP is excellent. 16ms refresh. There was a deal for $750 but that's probably expired now. But then again, I think getting it for under $1000 shoudln't be too hard.

Just note that since you're playing at 1600x1200 you'll probably need an fx5800/59x0 or a radeon 9700/9800 series card. So set aside about $200 to $300 for a video card.

Isn't there a viewsonic using the same panel as the Dell? And isn't the Samsung 213t worth consideration?

I think I read somewhere that the Samsung has a 29 or 27ms refresh rate...so I wonder if ghosting would be a problem here? Anyone have this screen? Any problems?

definitely, the 2100fp is a good choice...

along with the a new video card. get a 9800xp... and um, send that 9800 pro my way 😛

Ok so most of you like the dell, but I 've had nothing but bad luck with dell. I bought a pc from them a couple of years agk and had a very hard time trying to get support from them for the items that failed on me. Just don't feel comfortable with thier products. Any other models out there I should be considering within the budget of $1,000?

I'm gonna stick with the 9800pro (for now anyways). ;-(

Thanks.

The dells got lighting problems I heard in another thread it's universal on black background. I like our 191T and i was only 630 but I'd prefer a 21" FD trinitron.😛

I wouldn't worry about Dell, I've owned 3 Dell, systems, 2 Dell Monitors, and so much other stuff from Dell you wouldn't believe. They sent me a new power supply when I fried mine the day after i reported it. Thry even provided a postage sticker to I could send my busted one back to them free of charge, if that isn't good service, I don't know what is. Go with the Dell Monitor, In terms of its' refresh rate, its a SOLID choice.

Interesting. The Sonic & Sam are out of my price range...this is almost like buying a new tv. Man, can I really justify spending $1,500 on a pc screen? Well I spent $5g's on my tv so I guess yes...but still a heck of a lot of money. Aren't these prices supposed to be dropping? Also, where are you people getting you're stuff from. I ordered my pc from Newegg.com - man they're awesome.

Where are you guys getting the 16ms pixel redraw time for the 20"Dell? I've looked all over the Dell web site for that info and can't find it. Are we sure this isn't just "urban legend" ?

Just be aware that the Hot Deals' thread about this LCD had some complaints. I believe the two major gripes were a bright spot on the top of the monitor, and some sort of strange coating that made it appear too gridlike.

i have a 2000fp dell...it is fantastic...
lots of dell lcd's at the hospitals where i work...they all look great

get the 2001fp, you won't be disappointed..tremedous monitor for the money.

I'm trying to make the same decision... I've heard a lot of complaints about the Dell's image quality, as far as a meshy overlay or some such nonsense...

Fry's has the Samsung 213t for $1199 - $50 Instant Rebate - $100 MIR = $1049.95. After tax that would make it $1142.00 here. I've looked at the Samsung 213ts, and they are GORGEOUS, but I'm concerned about how much ghosting I would see.... Some people say it doesn't ghost at all.
