Sorry if this thread is in the wrong part, but i really need someone to help me out here before my 7 days of peace of mind guarantee is up.

I recently just brought a lg 42lh5000 which is supposed to be good for gaming, specially with its 2ms response time, ( hence why i brought it )

But when playing fifa 10 when the screen is panned from left to right quickly the players go out of focus which creates that smeared blurred effect which kills my eyes, it only goes back to that crisp image when the ball is passed without the camera moving quick. Plus when i am playing battlefield 2 the tv suffers with really bad ghosting trails, heres a video i took last nite for you to see.

I only use game mode with all the other features off, ive even set the ps3 to only play through 7020p but stll no luck,
ive even changed hdmi cables, But still no luck.
Played for 6 hours to see if the panel needed warming up to perform at its best but still no luck

Could this be a dodgy panel because this tv is supposed to be excellent for gaming, but on my screen it looks horrendus. Normal tv and sports look very good, its just gaming is so terrible.

Any help much apreciated

Are you outputting the ps3 at 1080 or 720?

Also, some LCD's still have horrible lag. This may be one of them.

yeah, the "response time is 2ms"....that is what they claim. Everyone has a different way of measuring it. Perhaps the way that LG does it is not legit when gaming.

First of all, it's 720p rather than 7020p (not trying to be an ass, but just trying to help). Second, are there any settings such as sharpness, motion, etc. that can be turned off or set to 0.

OK, I just looked up your TV. Make sure to turn TruMotion off. That will introduce lag, which might be what you're experiencing.

Input lag is different than ghosting. Input lag is the time it takes for the signal from the PS3 to show up on your screen. For example, a horrendous input lag of 100ms means that someone could pop up and shoot you (in a shooter, obviously), and you wouldn't see them until one-tenth of a second after they really appear in the game. The best way to reduce input lag is to turn off all processing as stated above.

I'm not as well-versed on ghosting, but it's basically where you see a blurring effect caused by two copies of the same image being on the screen at the same time. It often occurs in LCDs that can't keeps up with the fast motion on the screen. It can also occur at the source. AFAIK, buying a different TV is the only way to fix ghosting if the TV is the problem.

I watched your video, and it was pretty hard to see what was going on. Do you happen to have any of the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games or know someone who does? There's an input-lag test on those games that would at least tell you how much input lag you have.

I use the game mode feature which came with the tv, so it turns all the uneccessory features off. I also turned down the sharpness but it didnt help much. As for the Guitar Hero or Rock Bandi wish i did now mate hehe cause damn it sure would of helped.

I am starting to see the ghosting trail more day by day unless its just me, fifa is just unplayable, gta omg where do i start. The only game that looks acceptable is red redemption :|

As for battlefield 2, sometimes during the map i notice this horizontal line across the whole screen when i move my gun up and down which makes the textures on the map kinda jump as it goes across it.

2ms would be the equivalent of a 500 Hz refresh rate, which would be absurd for even a CRT.

Tomshardware measurements has shown that no LCD panel (including 2ms Samsung TN panels) has yet to achieve an average (>70%) grey to grey cycle above 12ms, which would be the equivalent of an 80 Hz refresh rate.

LG Panels are all S-IPS I believe. S-IPS technology at this time is still limited to an average grey-to-grey response time of around 25ms or a 40 Hz refresh rate, regardless what sellers claim. Many manufacturers have started over-volting the panels (some call it "overdrive") although this does little more than cut it down to 20ms and reduces the lifespan of the panel.

The accepted use of "response time" numbers today is white to black measurements, which are far faster than color to color transitions. Unless you watch a screen that transitions from black and white blocks all day, the "response time" claims are meaningless on and give little indication of real performance.

I know exactly where your coming, and i know there is always going to be some ghosting issues in every lcd panel, but not 2 the digree that i am experiencing. I know some people experience blur, ghosting issues more than others, but my mates 46inch sharp plays games beautifully and his panel is 2 yrs old so my eyes aint that sensitive. I should expect such results on a unbranded cheap tv.
