LCD Game Fps

Recently I made a thread on the forums about a lcd monitor that could play fast paced games well without any ghosting.

Everyone said that this was the one to get.

Getting to the point, when I play Counter-strike I can't get over 60 fps. I need 100 fps in order for the game to be smoother. Vsync is off, all of that I know and it has been taken care of. I had this problem with my other crt, but I somehow (i dont remember) fixed it. Any tips?

Thanks

p.s. the monitor is great

a "CRT vs LCD" thread and "the eye can't see over 60fps" thread combined into one! just kidding. anyways, why do you need 100fps instead of 60? does CS cap your framerate at 60?

If Vsync is enabled (and you DO want it enabled to avoid image tearing) then your framerate is capped at your monitor's refresh.

Most modern video cards default to 60Hz in 3D mode. You can override this in your video card's settings in Display Properties. For ATI cards go to the Advanced settings, Displays tab, click on the button for your display and change the "Refresh Rate Override" to whatever you want. NVidia cards have something similar - I just don't remember where it's at.

HOWEVER be aware that practically all LCD monitors only support a max of 75 Hz.

This is no problem, though. 75 Hz provides a more than smooth framerate for games. Most modern games have a 72 FPS cap anyway.

QFT.

If you really need to actually display 100fps for some reason, then a high-end CRT is the only way to do it, since as has been said, LCD's are generally limited to 60 or 75 Hz (which means that's the maximum frame rate they can display).

In my experience it's really not necessary though, even in fast-paced FPS games like UT. I used to have a CRT that could do 109Hz at 1600x1200, and it was very nice, but I don't feel like I'm really making a sacrifice with my current 2005FPW LCD (60Hz at 1680x1050).

Make sure CS isnt the one which is capping your fps. sv_max fps 101 or was it max_fps XXX. Forgot command to set max fps.

If its not CS then turn off Vsync or override the refresh rate. You should then be hitting more than 60fps. The only downfall is, even though in game you will get lets say 100 fps the lcd will only be throwing out somewhere around 70 frames, which shouldnt be an issue either way as most peoples eyes cant see past 60!
