hey, i am so tempted to jump on dell's 20 inch lcd. i've been holding out for too long because i keep thinking something new and awesome will come into the lcd world and knock everything else down. but so far: nothing. and the prices have pretty much stayed leveled for the past two years.

but before i pull the plug, any hype or buzz in the upcoming lcd technology? and from anand's recent review of that new lcd, it seems like dell is still the one to beat. but are there any other that i should look at? i am game for anything that is 17" or bigger, as long as the price is right.

What are the stats on it. Many places you buy from will allow you to use it and return it with a week or two if you don't like it-for no reason other. This has been my experience, but if you have seen it in action, and I suggest you do before you buy it, and you are happy with it buy it.
Rules to buy LCD's:
Don't buy off the internet even to save $ if you don't trust the site for monitirs and/or they don't have an extremely generous return policy.

the manufacturers are feeling a tad iffy now. they tried building all those big lcd tv's that cost way more then anyone would pay for, and sales remained flat. costs really need to come down.

You should check out Apple's new LCD lineup; they're very nice, but more expensive than the Dell 2001FP.

There are some new LCD technologies coming down the pike (OLEDs?) but AFAIK they won't be out for awhile and it is not known if they will necessarily overthrow what we're using right now.

The latest grumblings are that the price of LCD's is going to go down in the near future. These are only grumblings though and only time will tell.

I like the 19" BenQ 951 LCD ATM; it's cheap and has excellent performance from what I hear. It all depends on whether or not you can live w/ 25ms response time though. I don't have a problem with it.

was doing a little research...

what is all this dead pixel crap that is going around? it seems like a lot of people are experiencing atleast a few dead pixels. which, in my opinion, is @#%$ when you are spending a fortune on it.

it will be due in 2005 (probably Q3? in time for christmas and definetely by dec 2005, for christmas and super bowl)

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,113685,00.asp

its about 8 months old news, though

considering that the prices are $4500 for the 46", 54" should go for $6000ish and 57" for about $8-9000ish . . . which is okay, because we were considering the pioneer plasma 50" for $10000 a while back . . . but then we heard of this and 1080 pixel horizontally, so we are waiting, at least for the 54" :)

i think it is when you buy online . . .

i have bought lcd monitors, but i only buy them at retail stores

before i buy them, i ask them to take the monitor out and connect it to a computer they have onsite to see if there are dead pixels

once i had to ask the guy for 4 different panels, but it was worth it, the only dead pixel was one in the extreme lower corner, and only if viewed if there was no signal from the computer

LCD prices are already dropping and will only drop further. Oversupply of panels are going to kill prices and more are on the way. Considering the vendors have price gouged us for the past two years, it's time for some payback. I would hold off buying at the moment. Prices only have one way to go and that's down.

hahhah 4 grand? more like 10-15 or more... i'm being conservative. lcd tv's cost atleast 2-3x as much as equevalent plasma/dlp tv's, thats why they are only 3% of the market.

yea no excuse really. they just don't want to bother with selling different grades:p never buy lcd online.
