Im looking for a gaming LCD. My workspace wont permit a CRT so I have to find a decent LCD display for gaming.

One question I have is, "Will I see a big difference in using an LCD with DVI."

Another is, "How much does contrast ratio matter?"

Here are two I have been looking at. Please let me know your opinions.

*Notice this one has 5ms grey to grey but 20ms black-white-black

Thanks for the help.

I have a samsung 930b it works great, goes on sale at Bestbuy every other week it seems for $349. it runs at 8ms, and uses the same panel as the 8ms viewsonic. The 4ms one, isn't an accurate rating btw from the reviews i saw, but still a good monitor.

I've been gaming on my Hyundai L90D+ and have noticed no ghosting at all. Been playing BF2 demo, HL2, CS:Source, and Rome Total War all look awesome on this monitor. The price is right also.

I also just got the 930B from Best Buy. Great monitor. Have only played CS:S and BF2 Demo on it so far but have noticed absolutely no ghosting. Highly Reccomended. The L90D+ is also a great choice.

I just ordered an L90D+ today. It was a little on sale on newegg. ($337 with shipping). Not too bad for a 19" 8ms monitor with DVI. Supposedly it is one of the best affordable gaming LCDs, so I would highly recommend it.

I have a 19" Samsung SyncMaster 915N that I got from newegg for a little over $300. Seen no ghosting or whatnot with any of my games (all have graphics settings set to full, and highest "refresh" rates available for the res. used). Wonderful monitor. Though it's not DVI, but d-sub. but unless you're doing some MASSIVE model rendering, then you won't notice a diff. between using a d-sub monitor or a dvi monitor.

I am just a bit edgy about the Hyundai brand of monitor. I've never really heard of them making monitors. Hows the weight, portability, and angle adjustment on the L90?

I will let you know tomorrow! This is supposed to be one of the best LCD performers, so I am pretty hopeful. I believe the viewing angles (especially vertical) may be a tad weak, but that doesn't affect me. I am always sitting right in front of it...

What do you mean by portability? The size of the box, or do you mean how much room it takes up?

Edit: Hyundai makes just about everything now. Cars, TVs, monitors, hardware, etc. They are similar to Toshiba, Suzuki, Sony, and Mitsubishi...

i'm extremely happy with my dell ultrasharp 1905fp for gaming and general use. the only thing that's annoyed me so far is EAs lack of support for 1280x1024 in gaming.

I got my Dell 2005FPW this past January. Awesome monitor. I have a Mitsubishi/NEC 19" CRT monitor nex to the Dell LCD and the CRT is almost always off and the Dell is on all the time for gaming and web browsing. Price is great when you can get it with the coupon discount.

yup... Del producats are often overpriced (at least monitors) so they release coupons that are good for up to 40% off! They seem to do so every month or so, so keep an eye out.

So if I get a Dell widescreen will my games be all stretched looking? Or will it just play in the center of the screen or something?

If the game that you are playing has support for your widescreen resolution (2005FPW is 1680*1050), then it will look very good and won't be stretched at all. If the game resolution isn't 1680*1050, then you have 3 options: Fill (stetches the image to fill up the whole screen), Aspect (stretches the image as far as it can go while still keeping the aspect ratio), and 1:1 (displays the image in the center pixel at the correct resolution of the source). Play around with those 3 settings if you are dealing with non-native resolution images ot see what looks best.
