LCD/DLP Projector for DVD slideshow

I was looking to rent an LCD/DLP projector to do a DVD slideshow presentation but the cost seems expensive when I will need to do this a couple of times. So I am looking to buy one but don't know what I would need. I would also like to use it at home for watching DVD's. I am looking for suggestions. Also infocus has refurbs at their Store but have no idea how to sort through them all.

Any suggestions of places to shop/buy from and specs to look for would be appreciated. Looking at the $1000 mark.
 
Are either of these bright enough for a semi-lit room? I have used a projector that can be seen almost clearly with full light at work. And what about the X2?

4:3 or 16:9?

Will you need to buy a screen too with this budget?
 
Probably DLP, 4:3 is fine. The screen does not have to be included in the budget.

I was looking at the infocus X2 for $690 new. I am looking for other alternatives.

Optoma H30/H31
 
It looks like the BenQ 6110 would be better than the Infocus X2 for about $50 more the BenQ comes with a case and cables and has better reviews on CNet.
