LCD - dissapointing

I got a 15' EIZO FlexScan on a loan from a friend for a week, and so far it's not what I expected.

At native 1024x768, the thing is giving me headaches trying to read small text.
Playing wih contrast/brightness doesn't help, and reducing the res to 800x600 makes the text all blurry.

And if you change your viewing position, you have to move the monitor with you.

Set up a 15" CRT next to the LCD and then come back and complain some more once you see the difference on even ground.

Or go look at a 21" LCD and see why it's so much better that a CRT.

First of all, you should have an 18" LCD like me 🙂

Try looking around Microsoft's website for something like TrueType or TrueFont or some such thing. They have a windows plugin that makes text nicer for LCDs.

You're using your experience with an "Eizo" to diss all lcd's?

Your friend is cheap and obviously doesn't look at quality, just price. You get what you pay for in this world.

On the desktop: right click -> properties -> appearance -> effects -> switch standard to cleartype in the smooth edges of screen fonts box.

I own dual 17' Samsung LCDs and from my experience with these and other LCDs, I will say a good quality CRT always have better picture IMHO.

I know these are not the same products, but it's like comparing those projection tv's to tube tv's. Tube tv's will always win in quality. Must be the same with lcd's and crt's.

BIG CRTS > 15' LCDS

its simple, no one is gonna chose a 15 inch LCD over a 21" flat crt, theyd be crazy, unless they have absolutely NO room for it...

at 1024 on my 19in CRTs the text is SOOOO bg i could read it from across teh street

at 1600x1200 its just right

Since getting my 19" Planar LCD last October I have begun to hate CRTs. They just plain suck by comparison now. ClearType for WinXP took some getting used to and it felt a little awkward scrolling quickly (because I scroll too fast sometimes it would get blurry) but I don't even notice either of those now and it looks so much better than any CRT.

YMMV. 😉

I don't have an LCD for two reasons: 1) Look like crap with movement on the screen. 2) Way too freaking expensive.

Bonus reason: I don't need one 😉

uh, just so you're not misinformed projection TVs have much higher resolution and contrast than tubes and are "better" in just about all respects.

Black level aren't as good on a RPTV compared to a CRT tv. Viewing angle isn't as good. Surrounding light really affects the RPTV colours and blacks...........

I'll choose a CRT tv over a RPTV. Resolution isn't everything on a tv.........

15 feet? maybe you shouldn't sit so close to it.
