LCD display trouble

I have a Sony PCG-GRX550 laptop that has developed two problems with the LCD screen. When I boot up the computer, the brightness is fine but there are several white or colorless dots scattered about the screen. Moments after booting up, the brightness adjust itself to the darkest setting despite the fact that it was at it's brightest setting when I previously shut it down. If I adjust the brightness up again, it will later adjust itself to the darkest setting again by itself. As time progresses, more and more white dots appear. If I minimize and then maximze a window, it cleans up all the white dots or maybe just rearanges them.

Any ideas as to what the cause might be? The inverter?

Sounds like the integrated video is going bad. Probably nothing is wrong with your LCD screen.

I probably have to agree with Viper since dead pixels generally do not hop around as you described.
