LCD Display Help Please - Internet Explorer

My mom just picked up a top of the line Fujitsu lifebook, but we're running into huge problems with the resolution and Internet Explorer. It's currently set at 1400x1000 resolution. Since it's a notebook, it's locked at that resolution. However, the text on web pages is super small since it's 1400 horizontal pixels across a 16" screen. Is there any way to scale the text on IE? Many web pages aren't encoded in standard HTML anymore, so you can't just go view/text size/.

My mom now wants to buy an Apple G4 Notebook, just because the internet browser on it can scale text, regardless of how it's encoded. However, that would require buying new software and her Sony Clie wouldn't work anymore. I'm trying to convince her not to spend $3000 on a notebook just for browsing the internet.

I'm aware there's a registry setting that will scale the web content to fit the width of the window pane, but it scales all contents, including pictures, so that .gif files turn out jagged and ugly looking. I'm just trying to find a way to scale text into a large size.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found the answer. You have to go to Internet Tools/General/Accessibility and click on ignore font sizes specified in web pages first. Otherwise, the web page will override the view/text size command in IE.
