I have been looking for a new monitor and many models come with only the analog connector while more expensive ones have DVI...
Which leads me to my question does DVI provide much of an improvement? I know its better but how much?

thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell, on most monitors, DVI does not offer a large improvement over standard VGA. However, if you plan on getting Windows Vista when it comes out, look for a monitor with HDCP in it.

I found that DVI takes some of the hassle out of adjusting settings etc. DVI does it all the geometry for you however, analogue lets you mess with the screen positioning and shape etc. I personally would get one with DVI or both. Xanis made a good point also. :)

I have never noticed a difference from DVI to VGA. I would buy a DVI just so I would know I'm getting the best looking screen though.

Have you looked at Dell? They have VERY nice monitors, and some times if you look, you can get really nice deals, I got my 2405 for $800 (though I have seem people who got it for $770)

Which monitors are you looking at?

not many have HDCP, i know the new gateway monitors have it....

DVI is a MUST for larger screens (19" and beyond)
